The mechanical faults we deal with most often
On BMW engines, certain components regularly need workshop attention. Their symptoms are recognisable: it is best to have them checked before the fault gets worse.
Clogged EGR valve
Loss of power, black smoke, engine warning light or limp mode: on diesels, the EGR valve becomes clogged with recirculated soot.
Worn injectors
Difficult starting, uneven idle, hesitation, smoke or excessive fuel consumption: a faulty injector disrupts combustion.
Failing water pump
Rising engine temperature, coolant leak or overheating message: address this promptly to protect the engine.
Vanos fault
Unstable idle, lack of low-speed torque, noise on starting or engine warning light: variable camshaft timing is no longer responding correctly.

What is the mechanical labour rate?
Mechanical labour is charged at from €90 incl. VAT per hour. Oil changes and inspections have a fixed package price.
What are the signs of a clogged EGR valve on a BMW?
Loss of power, black smoke under acceleration, engine warning light on or limp mode. On BMW diesels, deposits often also affect the intake: walnut shell cleaning treats both.
How can I tell if an injector is faulty?
Difficult starting, uneven idle, hesitation, smoke or increased consumption are the most common signs. Injector diagnostics check engine smoothness when cold and hot.
Do you prepare BMW models for the French roadworthiness test?
Yes: pre-test checks of brakes, lights and suspension, with electronic fault reading, to address anything that needs correcting before the test.
