Your situation

Three diagnostic options to suit your needs

Electronic faults are not always visible. Left untreated, they impair performance and can lead to more serious breakdowns.

  1. Engine warning light and fault codes

Reading and analysing fault codes, guided fault finding: engine, ignition, instruments, air conditioning, ABS, parking sensors, suspension, automatic gearbox adaptations.

  2. Noise, loss of power, difficult starting

Knocking, unstable engine speed, increased oil or fuel consumption, 'Drivetrain' message: an in-depth check to anticipate a serious failure.

  3. Buying or selling a used BMW

In-depth checks for mechanical, electronic or structural abnormalities affecting the vehicle's value or reliability, in three packages.

Our checks

What engine diagnostics check

The workshop knows the weak points of BMW engines: each measurement confirms or rules out a possible cause.

  1. Fault codes and parameters

Reading, analysing and decoding faults, then comparing actual engine parameters with reference values.

  2. Compression and pressures

Cylinder compression, oil pressure (pump and crankshaft bearings), fuel pressure (pump and regulator).

  3. Borescope

Inspecting hidden engine components without dismantling, to assess their condition and the nature of any damage.

  4. Injectors, ignition and fuel system

Engine smoothness when cold and hot, oscilloscope signals, exhaust gas analysis.

  5. Timing system and turbo

Checking the condition of the timing chain, turbocharger, battery and alternator.

BMW diagnostic check: BMW engine warning light: read fault codes before replacing a part

An engine warning light does not tell you which part to replace: it indicates that a control unit has recorded a fault. Reading the fault codes identifies the circuit involved; guided fault finding, measurements and a road test confirm the cause. This avoids replacing a sensor, coil or EGR valve at random.

In Ostwald, Askwert Motors brings together experience of BMW engines and the equipment and approved software needed for these diagnostics, on BMW and MINI alike.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions, our answers

Another question? Call the workshop on +33 9 88 04 88 11.

How much do BMW diagnostics cost?

Fault and warning light diagnostics cost from €90 incl. VAT; in-depth engine diagnostics cost from €120 incl. VAT.

Can I drive with the engine warning light on?

The light indicates a fault recorded by a control unit: have the codes read promptly. If it flashes or the engine enters limp mode, limit use of the vehicle and call the workshop.

Which pre-purchase inspection should I choose?

Essential (€180 incl. VAT) covers faults, mileage and a road test; Advanced (€360 incl. VAT) adds history and bodywork; Premium (from €540 incl. VAT) adds borescope inspection, compression tests and a detailed report.

Do you also deal with FRM modules and xDrive faults?

Yes: FRM module repair, xDrive diagnostics and deactivation each have their own page, with prices.
